Abstract

This article examines the role and significance of the principles of electoral law,
its development and implementation in the modern electoral system. The constitutional and
legal guarantees of the voters of the Republic of Uzbekistan, international electoral standards
in the field of electoral law, which have been consolidated in the norms of the electoral
legislation of developed democratic countries, are analyzed on a legal basis. The most
important principles of electoral law on the basis of fundamental human and civil rights
and freedoms àre formulated. The basic elements of democracy, human rights and
fundamental freedoms, as well as the principles of free and fair elections are revealed. The
author pays special attention to the definition of such concepts as "universal suffrage",
"equal suffrage", "direct suffrage", "secret ballot", "frequency of elections", "ensuring the rule
of law".
